Loren W. Henry

Loren Wilson “Shorty” Henry, 97, of Shelbyville, died at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
Mr. Henry was born on October 21, 1913 in rural Shelby County, IL, the son of Wilse and Edith Sims Henry. Loren was raised on a farm in Shelby County. He attended country grade school and Shelbyville High School. He married Dorothy H. Robison on April 8, 1939. She died on September 28, 2004. They were married for 65 years.
Mr. Henry served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1943 -1945 and was discharged as Carpenter’s Mate 1st Class. He retired from Moultrie-Shelby FS in 1978 as Department Manager. Loren was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, where he was Deacon and Elder for many years. He also served as President of the Church Board for two years and was made Elder Emeritus in 1985. He was a member of Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81, Shelbyville, Shelby County Farm Bureau and Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, Shelbyville. Loren was a member of the Shelbyville City Council as Public Buildings and Grounds Commissioner and was in charge of the Shuffle Board Club at Forest Park in Shelbyville for twenty years. He and Dorothy wintered in Florida for 27 years following their retirement.
Loren was the last of the Henry bloodline.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; brother, Norris Henry; and sister, Alta Henry.
