James F. Himes, Jr.
(June 20, 1937 - October 29, 2011)
James F. “Jim” Himes, Jr., 74, of rural Tower Hill, IL passed away at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 in his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in the Assumption Christian Church with Rev. John Coney officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be in Knobs Cemetery, near Tower Hill. Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Assumption Christian Church.
Mr. Himes was born on June 20, 1937 in Pana, IL, the son of James Fredrick and Pauline Elizabeth Doll Himes. He graduated from Assumption High School in the Class of 1955 and then from the University of Illinois. He was a grain and dairy farmer in the Tower Hill area until his retirement. Jim also worked at Firestone in Decatur for many years. He was a member of the Assumption Christian Church and Shelby County Farm Bureau. Jim was a former leader of the Rural Feeders 4-H Club and Little League Coach in Assumption. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He married Mary E. Howard on July 11, 1959.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Lori Boltz of Champaign, IL; sons, Danny Himes and wife Linda of Tower Hill, IL and Terry Himes and wife Donna of Moweaqua, IL; sisters, Elizabeth Neumann and husband John of Geneseo, IL and Janis Himes of Champaign, IL; grandchildren, Brooke Reatherford and husband Brad, Brock Boltz, Brynn Boltz, Carsen Evans and husband Josh, Channing Himes, Drew Himes, Renee Himes and Anderson Himes; and great grandchildren, Brayden Reatherford, Bryce Reatherford, Hunter Wilson and Jett Evans.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
