Oscar M. Stewman, Jr., 75, of Shelbyville, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 in Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Chaplain Tim Haworth officiating. Visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Stewman was born on March 5, 1937 in Weirsdale, FL, the son of Oscar Malbert and Ruth York Stewman, Sr. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Oscar was a cook for the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching NASCAR and caring for his cat. He married Iona M. Fisher on November 28, 1968.
He is survived by his wife, Iona; children, Tonya Ward of Ocala, FL, Eugene Stewman and wife Joni of Assumption, IL, Sheryl Reider of Shelbyville, IL and Vickie Miller of Westervelt, IL; grandchildren, Raymond Amerson and wife Sara of Shelbyville, IL, Wesley Amerson of St. Louis, MO, Matthew Amerson of Suffolk, VA, Shelby Stewman of Ocala, FL, Christopher Miller of Shelbyville, IL, Shannon Kepler of Shelbyville, IL, Greg Ward, LeAnn Ward, De Anna Ward all of Ocala, FL, Mandie Langston of Assumption, IL, Rosie Kidd and husband Richard of Shelbyville and Rachel Gouchenouer and friend Logan of Murfreesboro, TN; and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Terry Stewman; and sister, Charlene Holley.
