Ruth Knudsen
(September 11, 1925 - May 24, 2013)

Ruth Knudsen, 87, of Shelbyville, died at 12:42 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 in Shelbyville Manor.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray and Gary Crowder officiating. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, Shelbyville Boys Baseball or Crossroads Cancer Center in Effingham, IL. Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth was born on September 11, 1925 in Greenville, IL, the daughter of James and Ruth Merry Donald. She was the secretary for the Shelby County Sheriff’s office for 28 years, before her retirement. Ruth was an avid Cub fan and Democrat. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville. She married Byron K. Knudsen on October 19, 1946. He died on April 29, 1979.

She is survived by her son, William Knudsen (Jane Sauers) of Monroeville, IN; daughters, Linda Kingston (Wilbur) of Shelbyville, IL and Pamela Cutler (Keith) of Shelbyville, IL; brother, John Donald (Judy) of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Emily Thomas Wakeland (Lloyd) of Shelbyville, IL: sister-in-law, Dolores Donald of Shelbyville, IL; five grandchildren, Christina Grant (Gary) of Shelbyville, IL, Kari Kingston of Shelbyville, IL, Stacy Gianino (Mike) of Anna, TX, Byron Knudsen (Ashley) of Dunlap, IL and Emily Taylor (Chris) of Findlay, IL; great grandchildren, Tanner and Paige Coleman both of Shelbyville, IL, Lucah and Claire Gianino both of Anna, TX, Ava and Samantha Knudsen both of Dunlap, IL and Gracie and Hunter Taylor both of Findlay, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byron; brothers, James Donald, Jr. and David Donald; and great grandson, Silas Gianino.
