Frank A. Compton

Frank A. Compton, 96, of Lakewood, IL, passed away at 5:07 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024, in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. A private family funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, with Pastor Satch Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Shelbyville First United Methodist Church Food Pantry or the Shelby County Honor Guard.

Frank was born on March 10, 1928, in Shelby County, IL, the son of Clyde A. and Clara (Oller) Compton. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1945 and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.  Frank married Juanita J. Sain on January 17, 1948, and they were blessed with 75 years of marriage and four sons.  Frank was a grain and livestock farmer near Lakewood, IL and farmed until he reached the age of 84.  He also worked at Caterpillar in Decatur for 30 years, retiring 37 years ago in 1987. Frank was a member of UAW #751 of Decatur, IL and Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 of Shelbyville, IL and served as trustee for Rose Township.  In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.

Frank is survived by his sons, David Compton and wife June of Tower Hill, IL, Charles “Chuck” Compton and wife Kathy of Shelbyville, IL, and Steve Compton and wife Carol of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Edna Harris of Moweaqua, IL; grandchildren, Kurt Compton (Tiffany) of Witt, IL, Karl Compton (Carly) of Findlay, IL, Kendra Finley (Chris) of Ramsey, IL, Kim Russo (Larry) of Sherman, IL, Kenny Compton (Emily) of Tower Hill, IL, Karen Compton of Tower Hill, IL, Brad Compton (Connie) of Mattoon, IL, Brett Compton (Kristina) of Mattoon, IL, Blake Compton (Camille Niccum) of Champaign, IL, Neil Compton (Jen) of  Litchfield, IL and Meredith Bosgraaf (Drew) of Shelbyville, IL; 20 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita Compton on March 21, 2023; son, Rev. Tom Compton (Christine); one brother, Donald Compton; one sister, Edith Smith (George); brother-in-law, Roger Harris; and sister-in-law, Inez Compton.  

The family would like to thank Shelly Sloan, FNP and the staff and aids at The Villas of Holly Brook for the exceptional care they gave to Frank.
