Pat Kensil

Katherine Patricia “Pat” Kensil, 91, of Shelbyville, IL, was born March 26, 1933, to Clayton Keith and Effie Irma Chase McKittrick in Shelbyville, IL. She passed away at 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in Hawthorne Assisted Living Center in Shelbyville.

Pat graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1951. She later married Kenneth “Fuzz” Kensil on September 18, 1955. They spent almost fifty years together, farming and raising their three children: Brian Kensil (Sandi) of Reisterstown, MD; Janet Kensil of Shelbyville, IL; and Marla Foor (Clint) of rural Tower Hill, IL. She adored her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Jessica Conway (Scott) with Madison, Jackson, and Quinn of Reisterstown, MD; Sean Kensil of Brooklyn, NY; Levi Pruemer (Molly) with Essy and Wynn of Shelbyville, IL; and Dakota Pruemer of Galesburg, IL.

Besides her family, Pat enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, her cats, flower gardening, crossword puzzles, playing cards, reading, and attending local country music shows. She cherished their neighbors from the farm community in Cold Spring Township south of Tower Hill and the long-lasting New Year’s Eve Group. Pat was a member of First Christian Church in Shelbyville, IL, and, while in rural Tower Hill, attended New Hope Baptist Church.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fuzz (2005), her sister Rosemary (2016) and brother-in-law Marty; her son-in-law, Gary Pruemer (2006); and in later years, special friend Dale “Shorty” Jordan. She was also preceded in death by several of her in-laws: JT and Edith Luck Kensil; brothers-in-law, Howard Kensil (Mary Nell) and niece, Suzanne Fritz; Jack “Buster” Kensil (Gladys); Dale “Cork” Kensil (Patty); sister-in-law, June Dickinson (Jerry), and nephews, Ken and Jack Dickinson; and sister-in-law, Ruby Welsh (Tim).

Pat is survived by her children, grand- and great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Kensil (Martha) of Shelbyville, IL; and many nieces and nephews: Susan (Peter), Jim (Stacy), Greg (Dianne), Barb, Ruth (Steve), Ed (Joanne), Dwight, Steven (Charlotte), Curt, Sandra, and Julia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, led by Pastor Derrick Ritchie and Pat’s children.   Visitation will be from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2024, and from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Friday, both in the funeral home. The burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelbyville Schools Track and Cross-Country Program or Donor’s Choice.
