Betty J. Hudson

Betty June Hudson, 93, of Cowden, IL, passed away Sunday morning, September 1, 2024, at Lincolnshire Place, Decatur, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor Debbie Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Betty was born on June 12, 1931, in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Bona James and Martha Catherine (Askins) Smith. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1949 and then attended beauty school in Decatur, IL. Betty married Delmar E. Hudson on December 27, 1951. They were married for 71 years at the time of Delmar’s passing on June 27, 2023. She worked in the catalog department of JCPenney in Decatur, IL for many years. Betty was a member of the Cowden United Methodist Church. She loved life on the farm with her family. Betty will be remembered for hosting and cooking Sunday family dinners, family card games, and her beautiful flower gardens.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Hudson (Diane) of Decatur, IL and Michael Hudson (Sharon) of Decatur, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie Hudson, Joshua Hudson (Erin), and Nicole Hudson; great grandchildren, Chandler Hudson, Mykaela Hart, Cheyenne Gregurich, Halle McCay, Nova Gregurich, Addison Hudson, and Alex Hudson; great great grandchildren, Lincoln Hart and Lainey Hart; brother-in-law, Gary Pruitt of Jacksonville, IL: and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delmar Hudson; brothers, James E. Smith, Sr. (Maxine) and Richard Smith (Beverly); and sisters, Juanita Kater (Gordon), Maurine Robinson, and Wanda Lou Pruitt.
