Alta Fern Horn

Alta Fern “Momma Fern” Horn, 76, of Findlay, IL, passed away at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2023 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Richard Hargrave officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery, near Lovington, IL. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Findlay, IL.
Fern was born on January 3, 1947 in Arthur, IL, the daughter of Jonas and Elizabeth Ann (Troyer) Yutzy. She married Frank L. Horn on December 18, 1976. Fern worked in the maintenance department at Borg Warner in Decatur, IL for several years. Fern was a member of the First Christian Church of Findlay, IL and a Master Gardener through the University of Illinois Extension Program. She loved working in her garden, tending to her flowers and making her own jams and jellies.
She is survived by her son, Robert Wade Coslow (Shelly) of Buffalo, IL; step-daughter, Sherry Jo Leach (Lonnie) of Decatur, IL; aunt, Amanda Miller of Arthur, IL; grandchildren, Rachel Coslow (boyfriend, Michael Howard), Austin Coslow, Cody Leach, Lonnie Leach, Shawn Leach, Melissa Cotton (Kyle), Matt Rodgers (Tori) and Jeremy Horn; and great grandchildren, Riley, Tyler, Sutton, Luke, Liam and newborn baby, Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank on March 11, 2018; infant son, Robert Wayne Coslow; step-son, Rick Horn; and brother, Danny Yutzy.
The family would like to thank the Intensive Care Unit staff at St. John’s Hospital for their compassionate care.
