Arlene Y. Koontz

Arlene Y. Koontz, 82, of Lakewood, IL, passed away at 8:05 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, in her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.  Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, both in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, IL.  Memorials may be given to Shelbyville High School Girls Softball or Saving Orphaned Animals in Shelbyville, IL.

Arlene was born on July 30, 1942, in Strasburg, IL, the daughter of Orville G. and Laura E. (Von Behren) Bauer.  In high school, she was the 1959 delegate to Girl’s State, hosted by MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL.  She graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1960, where she was the homecoming queen.  Arlene married H. Dale Koontz, Jr. on May 29, 1960, and they were blessed with two children, Kim and Steve.    She and her husband, Dale, owned and operated Koontz Farms near Lakewood, IL, where they were active in dairy, livestock, and grain farming.  Following her husband’s passing on May 18, 2011, Arlene volunteered at Shelby Memorial Hospital for many years. 

She is survived by her daughter, Kim Largen (Rick) of Lakewood, IL; son, Steve Koontz (Susan) of Lakewood, IL; granddaughter, Torre Koontz of Lakewood, IL; her caregiving angel, Gina Perry of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Laura Bauer; husband, H. Dale Koontz, Jr.; and siblings.
