Carroll Eugene “Gene” Price

Carroll Eugene “Gene” Price, 78, of Stewardson, IL, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL.

Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2024, in St. Paul Cemetery, Strasburg, IL.  Visitation will be from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Friday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.  Memorials may be given to his family.

Mr. Price was born on October 6, 1945, in Paris, IL, the son of Cearl Edward and Dessie Mae (Moore) Price.  Gene was a retired carpenter.  His hands built many pole barns, and he could do just about anything that had to do with construction.  He enjoyed watching his sons, Barrett and Joe carry on the carpentry work over the last few years.  Gene would often go to the job sites and give his advice.  He enjoyed spending time with his family.    Gene loved being in a good euchre game and sitting around the table joking and laughing.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherrie Plummer (Jim) of Newton, AL, Tina Hill (Jeff) of Mattoon, IL, and Teresa Tabbert (Paul) of Stewardson, IL; sons, Joe Price and Barrett Price both of Mode, IL; brother, Tom Price of Rardin, IL; sisters, Rosie Hite of Rardin, IL, Vella Lasco (Jr.) of Long Creek, IL, and Loretta Worman of Dieterich, IL; 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Brad Warner (Kim) of Oakland, IL and Barb Warner of Charleston, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marlon Price; grandson, Nathan Price; infant brother, Charles; and sisters, Ruby, Katherine, and Frieda.
