Daniel K. Brewer 

(August 1, 1945 – July 2, 2024)

Daniel Kenneth Brewer, 78, of Findlay, IL, passed away peacefully at 7:09 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in Shelbyville Manor.

Dan was born on August 1, 1945, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Kenneth and Loraine (Bartimus) Brewer.  He graduated from Bethany High School in the Class of 1963.  Dan earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois University. His career as an educator spanned 34 years, teaching Industrial Arts and General Business at Findlay and Okaw Valley Schools.  As a teacher, Dan’s shop was a place of learning and growth where he made a lasting impact on the lives of his students. He retired in 2005 and owned and operated Brewer’s Custom Woodworking. Despite dealing with the impact of a stroke he suffered in 2010, Dan never lost his spirit or determination.

Dan married Karen Kraegel on December 18, 1971.  Dan and Karen’s life together was filled with unwavering support for one another and for their daughter, Erin.

Dan was a devoted member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, IL serving as an Elder and Trustee.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Erin Brewer Temchin (Merreck) of Santa Barbara, CA; brother, James Brewer of Bethany, IL: sister, Joyce Brown (Merle) of Bethany, IL; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Brewer) Henggeler; brother-in-law, Keith Kraegel (Su) of Atlantic Beach, FL; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dean Brewer.

Dan’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many students whose lives he touched.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2024, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Nathan Woolery officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany, IL. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Shelby County 4-H Federation. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
