David E. “Dubbins” Geer

David Eugene “Dubbins” Geer, 67, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 1:23 a.m. Sunday, December 11, 2022 at his residence.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memories will be shared at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor Nick Brown officiating. Memorials may be given to the Angel Tree Program or Saving Orphaned Animals, both in Shelbyville, IL.

Dubbins was born on November 27, 1955 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Burl Eugene and Ruth Joan (Young) Geer. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1973. Dubbins married Gretchen Mary Storm on February 21, 1976. He worked at International Paper in Shelbyville for 33 years, retiring in 2017.

In his younger days, Dubbins enjoyed motocross racing and his membership in the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club. He was also an avid softball player, playing on the Men’s Slowpitch League for Tri-Modern Steel, among other teams. He spent many years running the river with friends, golfing, riding his motorcycle with Gretchen, friends, and the “Dog Pack”. Most recently, Dubbins has enjoyed being a part of the Rick Roedel Racing Crew and going for rides in his side by side. He most enjoyed visiting with his friends, family, and anyone that wanted to stop by for a chat, as he could often be found sitting outdoors, with a wave for everyone.

Dubbins is survived by his wife, Gretchen; son, Brandon Geer and wife Shanna of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Maleah Geer and fiancé Rob Burrell of Shelbyville, IL and Michelle Geer of Mattoon, IL; nephew, J.R. Geer of Strasburg, IL; 8 grandchildren, Kaylee, David, Alana, Kylie, Josh, Jack, Miranda, and Claressa; and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Karen Askins and Cheryl Geer; and niece, Megan Geer.

The family of Dubbins would like to express their gratitude to everyone that has provided care to him throughout his battle with cancer, with a special thanks to Dr. Bowers, SBL Regional Cancer Center, and SBL Hospice Care.
