Elva Gerhold 

(November 14, 1931 –  August 1, 2024)

Elva Gerhold, 92, of rural Tower Hill, IL, passed away at 5:14 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2024, in the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Dollville, IL with Rev. Neil Kaiser officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday in the church.  Burial will be St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery near Dollville, IL.  Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Dollville, IL.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Elva was born on November 14, 1931, in Macon County, IL, the daughter of Guy Arthur and Telitha Ann (Sutton) Crickman. She graduated from Assumption High School in the Class of 1949.  Elva married Walter F. “Walt” Gerhold on September 3, 1950, and they were blessed with three daughters Joyce, Karen, and Rose.  The Gerhold family owned and operated Custom Care Cleaners in Shelbyville for 45 years, beginning in 1972.  Elva worked at the garment factory in Assumption in her early years and was a gifted seamstress.  She also enjoyed crocheting and gardening.  Elva was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Dollville, IL. 

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Charlie) Proctor of Jacksonville, IL, Karen (Ronnie) Taylor of Shelbyville, IL, and Rose Gerhold of Tower Hill, IL; sister, Rosemary Dagan of Bradley, IL; grandchildren, Walter “Wally” Gerhold and Brandi Land; two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walt on December 7, 1995; two sisters, Eloise Alton and Trela Virden; and brother, Gene Crickman.
