Emalea A. Sohaney

     Emalea Ann Sohaney, 87, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 1:52 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shelbyville, IL, with Father Pawel Augustyniak as Celebrant. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given in Emalea’s name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

     Emalea was born on July 27, 1936, in Vincennes, IN, the daughter of Gilbert and Martha (Bedford) Osterhage. She graduated as Valedictorian from Salem Community High School, Salem, IL in the Class of 1954. Emalea married Augustine Louis “Lou” Sohaney on November 24, 1962, at St. Elizabeth Church, Robinson, IL. After moving to Shelbyville, Emalea worked as a librarian at the Shelbyville Public Library until the time of her retirement. Emalea was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville, IL.  

     Emalea is survived by her sister, Janet Theriac of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Matthew Theriac and wife Karla of Macon, MO; sister-in-law, Catherine Davis of Englewood, OH; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Erica Firnhaber and Bob and Lana Pancoast.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lou; daughter, Anna Marie Sohaney; step-father, Leo Theriac; brother, Mark Theriac; and close cousin, John Robert Bedford.
