Ervil W Fisher, Sr.

Ervil Wayne Fisher, Sr., 90, of Shelbyville, IL, went to be with the Lord at 10:33 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 in Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church of Shelbyville, IL.

Ervil was born on April 29, 1923 on the family farm in Rose Township, IL, the son of Fredrik Charles and Addie Leora Wortman Fisher. He was married for 52 years to the love of his life Emogene (Wheat) who preceded him in death on November 10, 1994.

From 1943-1948, Ervil worked for the Chicago West Town Railway Company in Chicago, IL. He was the last know surviving streetcar operator and was a guest of the Illinois Railway Museum in 2004, where they honored him by having him drive a restored streetcar.

He was employed as a Maintenance Superintendent with Shelbyville School District from 1948-1983. While working, he continued his education through DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, IL. After his retirement, he enjoyed his family, woodworking, working on his farm, water skiing, riding his motorcycle, and riding horses. He was a fifty year member of the First Christian Church in Shelbyville, IL. In 1970 he coordinated the inception of the Shelby County Rescue Squad and was the first Shelby County Rescue Squad Chief. After 20 years of service, he then became a trustee for the squad. His hobbies were horses, motorcycles, woodworking, and water skiing.

Surviving are his children, Wayne (Connie) Fisher of Shelbyville, IL and Christine (Tom) Shadley of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Eric Fisher, Courtney (Andy) Fisher Button, Aaron (Erin) Fisher, Christopher Shadley, and Cody Shadley; great grandchildren, Zach, Anika, Anastasia, Austin, Alex, Ayden, Ayson, and Anderson; and two nieces, Jeannie (Jack) VanLeirsburg and Janet (Dick) Colvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Wilmer Fisher; sister-in-law, Viola Ross Fisher; step-mother, Bessie Chihak Fisher and step-brother, Raymond Chihak.
