John C. Glick 

(April 20, 1936 – August 5, 2023)

John Charles Glick, 87, of Tower Hill, IL, passed away at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Pastor Derrick Ritchie officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023 in the funeral home. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery, Tower Hill, IL with military rites by the Pana Veterans Honor Guard.   Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.

John was born on April 20, 1936 in Tower Hill, IL, the son of Ross S. and Hattie (Godfrey) Glick. He graduated from Tower Hill High School in 1955. John went on to serve in the United States Army from 1958-1960, as a refrigeration specialist. Following his military service, John married Arlene C. Evans in 1961, and they had three daughters, Janet, Karen and Gayle. He worked as an Inspector at Caterpillar in Decatur, IL, where he retired after 30 years. He also owned and operated Glick’s Saddlery in Tower Hill, selling horse tack in many states throughout the Mid-West. John had an honest passion for horses. He specifically enjoyed horseback riding, calf roping, team roping, and buying and selling horses. He was also a mentor to many young men over the years. Following his retirement, John and Arlene became world travelers and had many adventures along the way.  John attended Tower Hill Christian Church and was a member of the Tower Hill Lions Club.

John is survived by his wife, Arlene;  daughters, Janet Fuenty and husband Robert of Rockford, IL, Karen Barnes and husband Brad of Waterloo, IL, and Gayle Perry and husband Sam of Tower Hill, IL; sister, Shirlee Miller of Nordland, WA; sisters-in-law, Beverly Glick of Bellingham, WA, Betty Glick of Tower Hill, IL and Belinda Vanatta of Nashville, TN; six grandchildren, Tristan Fuenty of Rockford, IL, Katelin Fuenty of Urbana, IL, Zach Barnes and Amelia Barnes both of Waterloo, IL, Samantha Perry of Pana, IL, and Lane Perry of Tower Hill, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Catherine Wicker; brother-in-law, Donald Miller; and three brothers, Don Glick, Robert Glick and Jerry Lee Glick in childhood.
