Kerry L. “Odie” Thompson, 73, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2023 in his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023             in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Gary Duckett officiating.  Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023 in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard.   Memorials may be given to Shelbyville High School Boys Baseball.

Kerry was born on May 11, 1950 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Henry L. “Skeezix” and Beverly Gene Cutler Thompson.  He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1968.  Kerry was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a tank operator at Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) in Mt. Zion, where he worked for over 38 years.   He enjoyed playing softball for Tri-Modern Steel in Shelbyville and attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.  Kerry was a member of Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 and VFW Post # 4829 both of Shelbyville and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.  He married Linda Marie Miller on December 1, 1972 and they were married for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Andrew Thompson (Laura) and Luke Thompson (Mary) all of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Samantha  Cohan (Jim), Matthew Thompson (Talina), David Thompson, Brittany Thompson,  and Cooper Thompson; and great grandchildren, Sawyer Cohan, Leonard Cohan, Isaac Cohan, Atticus Cohan, Ellieanna Hutt, Ametheya Thompson, Xavier Thompson and Jacob Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry “Skeezix” Thompson in 1966; mother, Beverly Kingston; and step-father, Elmer Kingston, Jr.
