Lorraine R. Galvin

Lorraine Rose Galvin, 94, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away at 10: 29 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2024, at HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

Lorraine was born on February 2, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Albert and Mildred (Duda) Rothe. She graduated from Chicago Alvernia Catholic High School in the Class of 1947. Lorraine began working as a production control manager for Argas Manufacturing, and later earned her real estate license to become a real estate agent. She moved to Shelbyville in 1984, where she co-owned and operated Robin Hood Woods Campground.. She earned her CNA certification from Lake Land College and worked as a CNA in private homes, providing care for those in need. She also worked for Shelby County Community Services Mental Health Clinic in Shelbyville. Lorraine was very generous with her time, serving as Commissioner of Boy Scouts of America, Republican Precinct Captain, ABWA President, Red-Cross Disaster Volunteer, and Chaplain at the VFW. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville, IL.

Lorraine is survived by her two sons, David Galvin and wife Barbara of Shelbyville, IL, and Donald Galvin of Wooddale, IL; brother, Robert Rothe and wife Rama of California; dear friend, Betty Rodman and husband Melvin of Shelbyville, IL; two grandchildren, Kimberly Anne Schmitz and husband Mark of Pana, IL, and Michael Galvin and wife Jordan of Mt. Zion, IL; and one great granddaughter, Olive Lorraine Galvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved friend, Lawrence Ray Gordon; and brother, Richard Rothe.

In keeping with Lorraine’s wishes, her life will be celebrated privately.  Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals and mailed to Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
