Adrian L Phelps
(February 15, 1931 – October 11, 2018)
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2018 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
Adrian was born on February 15, 1931 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Luther L. and Bertha M. (Spracklin) Phelps. He grew up in Shelbyville and attended Shelbyville High School. Adrian was a gas journeyman for CIPS in Mattoon, IL for 35 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mattoon, IL and IBEW Local 702 of Mattoon, IL. Adrian enjoyed restoring old cars, camping, and spending winters in Florida. He married Owen M. Mulvaney on February 20, 1949 in Shelbyville, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Owen of Mattoon, IL; three children, Alan Phelps (Connie) of Effingham, IL, Chris Casto (Dave) of Supply, NC, and Jeff Phelps (Lisa) of Clarksville, TN; sister-in-law, Barbara Phelps of Shelbyville, IL; five grandchildren, Brandon Whightsel (Addie), Tracy Harpster (Val), Erin Lawler (Will), Ashley Jansen (Dan), and Tricia Partlow (Adam); six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Cecil Phelps (Pauline), Betty Stephens, Charlie Phelps (Earleen), Irma Atkinson (Jack), Herb Phelps (Ruby), Gene Phelps, and Dale Phelps.
