Alice M Daniels
(February 17, 1929 – November 24, 2013)
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Kathy Lewis and Pastor Don “Satch” Thomas officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with rites by Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit 289. Memorials may be given to Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit 289 or to the American Heart Association.
Alice was born on February 17, 1929 in Shelby County, IL, the daughter of Harry Estes and Bessie Maye Gill Thomas. Alice was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for Webner’s Elevator in Strasburg. She was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church, Effingham VFW Auxiliary, Effingham DAV Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit 289. Alice volunteered a lot before her heart problems and stroke. She loved to do crafts and to quilt. She played softball for the Strasburg Women’s Softball Team and later coached the team and the girls’ team. She enjoyed camping and traveling. One of her favorite things was to dance a jig. She would dress like Minnie Pearl and collect money from the audience for the Windsor Harvest Picnic and dance a jig as she was doing this. Her greatest joy was her grandkids and great grandkids. She enjoyed all the little kids that would come to the nursing home. She married Earl E. Daniels on November 10, 1946. He died on February 26, 2010.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Linn) Voris of Windsor, IL; sons, Dennis (Kyoko) Daniels of Colorado Springs, CO, Thomas “Mike” (Jeanette) Daniels of Strasburg, IL and Todd (Tina) Daniels of Strasburg, IL; brother, Oscar (Phyllis) Thomas of Strasburg, IL; grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley) Voris, Derrick (Amber) Voris, Christina (Don) Brown, Christopher (Nikki) Daniels, Matthew (Ashley) Daniels, Lisa (Shawn) Hull, Justin (Laura) Daniels, Steven Daniels, Kevin Daniels, Tori Daniels and Lucas Daniels; step-grandchildren, Jon and Justin Henschen; eight great grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; six brothers, William, Paul, Gaylord, Irvin, Omer “Bub” and Donald Thomas; and two sisters, Agnes Ross and Bertha Green.
