Allie A. “Alvena” Childress, 87, of Windsor, died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007 in Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Lynette DeAtley and Rev. Kathy Lewis officiating. Visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Gallagher Chapel Cemetery, near Fancher, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the Clarksburg United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Childress was born on May 17, 1919 in Fancher, the daughter of Selby and Fannie Debolt Hopkins. She was a member of Clarksburg United Methodist Church. She married Nelson Thomas Childress on June 17, 1939 in St. Bernice, Indiana. He died on June 10, 2002.

Surviving are her sons, Carl Childress of New London, MO and Roy Childress and wife Helen of Shelbyville; daughters, Nancy Jones and husband Don of Shelbyville and Phyllis Thomas and husband Oscar of Stewardson; brothers, Kenneth Hopkins and wife Clara of Shelbyville and Dale Hopkins of Missouri; sisters, Retha Townsend, Gene Arganbright and June Norfleet and husband Bob all of Shelbyville; step-sister, Fern Ellen Page and husband Nile of Shelbyville; 17 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Nelson.
