Anita B. Kessler, 92, of Shumway, IL, died at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 in Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Shelbyville, IL.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from noon – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County 4-H Federation or Donor’s Choice.

Anita was born on November 20, 1921 in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Ralph T. and Florence Sharp Butcher. She received her teaching degree from Western Illinois State Teachers College, Macomb, IL. Anita taught high school home economics in Beecher City for four years and in Shelbyville for one year. Anita was named the Home Advisor with the University of Illinois Co-operative Extension Service for Shelby County, IL in 1950 and retired after 20 years of service. She loved collecting antiques and was a member of Order of Eastern Star Shelbyville Chapter #69. She married Glen J. Kessler on November 18, 1944. She and Glen enjoyed spending their winters in Marble Falls, TX for 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Glen; children, David Kessler and wife Carol of Shelbyville, IL, Debbie Smith and husband Jerry of Ballwin, MO, and Steve Kessler and wife Janet of Pana, IL; brother, Larry Butcher and wife Marilyn of Hunt, TX; sister, Helen Beatty of Naperville, IL; sister-in-law, Norma Butcher of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie Jeanne Gurgel and husband Jon of Milwaukee, WI and Captain Adam Stephen Kessler and wife Sonia of Clarksville, TN; and great grandchildren, Jackson and Jakob Gurgel both of Milwaukee, WI and Brianna and Alessandra Kessler both of Clarksville, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin son, Daniel Charles Kessler; daughter-in-law, Loretta J. Kessler; and brothers, David Butcher and one in infancy.
