Aubrey Lee Jones, 87, of Strasburg, passed away at 3:25 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 in Heartland Christian Village in Neoga, Illinois, to be with his Lord and Savior.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in Washington United Methodist Church in rural Stewardson, Illinois with Rev. Kathy Lewis and Rev. Randy Beaty officiating. Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, Illinois. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, near Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Washington United Methodist Church in rural Stewardson, Covenant House in New York or St. Jude Hospital in Tennessee.

Aubrey was born on February 23, 1922 in Shelby County, Illinois, the son of Guy and Edna Shepherd Jones. He started driving semis when he was 19 and in 1945 started his own trucking company, Jones Trucking Service at age 23 in Stewardson, Illinois. Then when he sold that business to his son, Jerry, he started Jones Rock Company and hauled several tons of rock, sand and dirt until he retired in 2003. Aubrey also worked for Howell Asphalt Company in Mattoon. He loved working in his garden, yard mowing and tinkering in his shop. Also he liked his goats, sheep and chickens. He was a member of Washington United Methodist Church in rural Stewardson and Teamsters in Decatur. He married Lora Mae Kessler on February 21, 1942 and they had four children, Jerry Jones and wife Merna of Stewardson, Ron Jones and wife Paula of Strasburg, Joyce Downing and husband Bill of Gravette, Arkansas and Jackie Walker and husband Mike of Effingham. They all survive. On November 23, 1996 he married Christie Goebel Spivey and he welcomed two step-children, Rusty Spivey and fiancé Correana of Shelbyville and Vickie Wagner and husband Brian of Findlay. He loved his family to come and visit him. He loved them all. Also surviving are his sisters, Evelyn Gordon and husband Richard of Beecher City and Elnora Beaty of Searcy, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and Stanley Jones; and sisters, Beatrice Willey and Retha Mae Jones.
