Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. David McHenry officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to donor’s choice.
Mr. West was born on August 2, 1924 in Shelby County, the son of Walter Roy and Jessie Beatrice Bryson West. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and was photographed walking onto the shores of the Philippines with General Douglas MacArthur when he returned. He worked for Oliver Corporation, White Motor Corporation and City of Shelbyville at Forest Park. He was a member of Cornerstone Community Fellowship and V.F.W. Post #4829 both in Shelbyville. He married Barbara Jean Walden on February 16, 1946. She died on March 5, 1989.
Surviving are his daughters, Sandra Tolen of Shelbyville, Debra Reed and husband Dan of Kingmon and Cathy White of Shelbyville; brothers, Forrest West and wife Hazel of Shelbyville and Bill West of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Tammy, Teresa, Tara, Dani, Travis, Angelique, Chad, Brad, Josh, Donny, Jesse and Cody; and 23 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; brothers, Carl and Kenneth West; sisters, Opal Reed, Bonnie Stephens, Donna West and Marjorie Witt.
