August Von Behren, Jr.
(July 28, 1923 – April 30, 2014)
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville or the American Cancer Society.
Tex was born on July 28, 1923 in Strasburg, IL, the son of August “Gus” and Lydia Louise Tendler Von Behren. He began working as a milk route driver in the Strasburg area. He later worked for M. J. Wilson Auto Company in Shelbyville and then was a custodian for Shelbyville High School until his retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville. He married Ruth Ellen Courtright in 1951. She died in 1965.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Melissa Lane and husband Kevin of Dalton City, IL, Patty Howard and husband Gary of Findlay, IL, Lucy Smith and husband James of Findlay, IL and Robert Thompson and wife Charlee of Greenup, IL; three great grandchildren, Nicholas and Kevin Howard and Noah Thompson; and sister, Nida Miller of Mode, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; daughter, Joyce Kay Von Behren Thompson; and one sister.
