Barbara Ann (Osborn) Highland, 77, passed away at 1:35 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 2010 with her family at her side at her home in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Lee Lovett officiating. Visitation from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before services on Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Barbara was born on July 13, 1932 in Sullivan, Indiana, the daughter of Maurice and Bessie Mason Osborn. She began working as a legal secretary for Walter Wood Law Office in Sullivan, Indiana in 1950 and then became secretary to the Vice President and Sales Manager of Columbian Enameling Company in Terre Haute, Indiana. She retired from Shelbyville High School in 1992 after 25 years as a secretary to the principal. She later worked for the Department of Revenue in Springfield, Illinois. She was active as a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville and a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Oblong, Illinois. She married Jake Highland in Graysville, Indiana on February 21, 1954.

She is survived by her husband, Jake; daughter, Susan (Doug) Adams of Snellville, Georgia; son, Timothy (Karen) Highland of Bloomington, Illinois; and four grandchildren, Travis Highland and wife Xanthe of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kyndell Highland of Bloomington, Illinois, Connor and Alex Adams both of Snellville, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to thank Lincolnland Hospice and Home Care of Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Systems for their loving care of Barbara during her illness.
