Barbara J Swisher

A family memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, IL with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Shelby Christian Church in Shelbyville, IL.
Barbara was born on April 26, 1929 in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Glen and Adah (Martin) Garrett. She attended Windsor High School and began working at Mattoon Memorial Hospital. She later graduated from beauty school in Mattoon. Barbara owned and operated a beauty shop in Mattoon, IL for many years. She was a member of Shelby Christian Church in Shelbyville, IL. Barbara married Chester A. Swisher on July 15, 1946. They loved to travel and spend time in Arizona. He died on March 30, 2011.
She is survived by her son, Allen E. (Marayart) Swisher of Torrance, CA; daughters, Dian (Bill) Camic of Shelbyville, IL and Nancy E. (Bill) Zike of Mattoon, IL; sister, Anita Kay (Emery “Butch”) Owens of Apollo Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Chanon (Tom) Mongkolthip, Matthew Swisher, Jenna Camic, Jordan Camic and Philip Zike; and great grandchild, Aidan Shride.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; and sister, Virginia (Harold) Patrick.
