Bernard F. Doty, 79, of Strasburg, went to be with the Lord and many other family members and friends at 6:30 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 in his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 in Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Lewis officiating. Visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg with Masonic rites at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour before services Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Memorials may be given to Strasburg United Methodist Church.

Mr. Doty was born on September 21, 1931 in Beecher City, Illinois, the son of Everett Golden and Freda Alvena Pifer Doty. He graduated from Strasburg High School in the Class of 1949 and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Bernard worked at Anamet in Mattoon and retired in 1993. He was a faithful member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was active in the Men’s Club. He was a charter member of the former Stewardson Masonic Lodge. Bernard enjoyed restoring Mustangs and woodworking. He devoted his life to his family, community, church, and Lord. He married Zona Gail Webner on June 7, 1953 in Strasburg.

Surviving are his wife, Zona Gail; sons, Steven Doty (Marcia) of Lafayette, IN and Randal Doty (Dawn) of Windsor, IL; brother, Roger Doty (Pat) of Ohio; sisters, Naomi Capen of Nevada and Rosalie Doty of Mattoon, IL; sister-in-law, Erna Doty of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie Daugherty (Mike) and Michael Doty (Tara) all of Lafayette, IN, Elizabeth Short (Brian) of Effingham, IL and Elizsha Doty and friend Kevin Darnell of Shelbyville, IL; and great grandchildren, Madelyn, Matthew, and Mason Daugherty, Dylan Dawson, and Tatum Doty and Brock Short.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Virgil Doty; and sisters, Lois McGinness and Vera Doty.

The family is grateful to caregiver Tom Adkins who did so much to assist dad. We thank you.
