Bernard A. Spracklen, 90, formerly of Shelbyville, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 in his residence at Aspen Creek in Effingham, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville with Father Don Wolford as celebrant. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund, Shelbyville or Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, Donaldson, IN.

Bernard was born on May 4, 1923 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of John Vinson and Cora Mary Domas Spracklen. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1942. Bernard was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II, serving in the South Pacific. He returned from the service and joined his brother, Marion, at Spracklen Radio in Shelbyville. Bernard retired from Spracklen TV in Shelbyville in 1978. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville and Knights of Columbus, Council 8690, Shelbyville. He married Johanna Elizabeth Niebrugge on October 7, 1950 in St. Mary’s Church in Green Creek, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Johanna; son, Michael A. Spracklen and wife Debra of Shelbyville; daughters, Mary Loy and husband Sam of Bible Grove, Julie Lord and husband Jerry of Decatur, Janet Allen and husband Randy of Shilo and Martha Dagen and husband David of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Clara Richter, Molly Allen, Emily Miller, Kathy Bollum, Andrew, Adrienne and Adam Dagen, and Jeff, Jacob, Andrew and Anna Spracklen; and great grandchildren, Layla, Isabella, Anthony and Will Spracklen; and Adelynn Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marion, John, Paul and Domas Spracklen; and sisters, Marie York, Virginia Lombard and Ella Rose Fuller.
