Bernice Simpkins
(September 17, 1919 – January 13, 2010)
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with Rabbi Marks of Springfield, IL officiating. Visitation and memorial tea will be held immediately after, at the Joanne Bogart residence. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Humane Society.
Bernice was born on September 17, 1919 in Chicago, IL, to Jacob and Rose Isenberg Nitka, most of her work life was spent as an accountant with the Department of Nuclear Energy, where she reviewed contracts.
Bernice is survived by her sister, Joanne Bogart of Shelbyville; her nephews, Dennis Longfield of Evergreen Park, IL and Dr. Theodore Bogart (Christine) and Gregory Bogart (Brenda) both of Shelbyville; and her niece, Belle “Lexi” Plummer (Vernon) of Shelbyville. She is also survived by great nieces and great nephews, Nicole Manasco, Brittany Longfield, Jacob Plummer, Rebecca Plummer, Lauren Schnider, Mitchell Bogart, Jordan Bogart, and Sarah Bogart, all of whom were very fond of their “Aunt Cissie”.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Sarajane Longfield.
