Bernis P McCormick

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Bernis was born on June 5, 1921 in Shelbyville, IL to Orphy L. and Maude (Reid) McCoy, but was later adopted by Doris “Em” and Grace Sims Elliott after the death of her mother. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1938. Bernis married Donald E. “Dick” McCormick on January 29, 1941, who preceded her in death on September 12, 2011. She was a homemaker for most of her life, but also helped her husband run the Interstate Café in Shelbyville for several years. She was a cook at the restaurant and later at the Shelbyville Manor. Bernice enjoyed needlework, quilting, playing cards, reading, watching birds and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Arlyn (Tess) McCormick of Godfrey, IL and Stan “Butch” McCormick of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Cindy (Don) Collins of Logansport, IN; daughter-in-law, Michele McCormick of Folsom, CA; granddaughters, Jody (Kelly) McCormick of Findlay, IL, Angie (Rich) Makowiec of Warrenville, IL and Stephanie (Jigar) Patel of Sebastopol, CA; and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Donald McCormick; brother, Orpha Dale McCoy; and sister, Marie Linton.
