Betty J Biehler

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville and one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Shelbyville or Habitat for Humanity in Shelby County.
Mrs. Biehler was born on July 31, 1923 in Shelbyville, Illinois, the daughter of Ira C. and Mary Cihak Elliott. During WW II, Betty was a cashier for the original Roxy Theatre, worked for Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou in Shelbyville and wrote letters to the servicemen. She later worked for Sears, Shelby Memorial Hospital and Coast to Coast Hardware Store all in Shelbyville. She was member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, where she was active in the Ruth Circle. Betty was also a member of the Shelbyville Garden Club and Shelby County Home Extension, a volunteer for the TRIAD Program in Shelby County, IL and a den mother for cub scouts. She was an avid fan of University of Illinois basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals. She married Raymond Orval Biehler on April 21, 1946. He died on October 12, 2003.
Surviving are her sons, Bob Biehler of Maplewood, MO, Jan Biehler and wife Cathy of Florissant, MO and Terry Biehler and wife Leslie of St. Petersburg, FL; daughters, Sharman Bastl and husband Bill of Franklin, TN and Marlene Waggoner and husband Chuck of Shelbyville, IL; sisters-in-law, Shirley Hick of Sun City West, AZ and Frances Biehler of Shelbyville, IL; nine grandchildren, Brooke, Ben, Joshua, Patrick, Krista, Connie, Amy, Helen and Leslee; and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; son, Larry Biehler on March 23, 2009; six brothers, Orth “Pat”, Maurice, Aubrey “Cotton”, Thomas, Burl and Ira “Jeff” Elliott; and one sister, Inez Brown.
