Beverly J. (Beem) Smith, 75, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Shelby Memorial Hospital at 11:25 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville or American Diabetes Association.

Beverly was born on May 17, 1934 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Max and Pansy Mae West Beem. She was a graduate of Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1952 and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. Beverly was an operator for the telephone company in Shelbyville. She later worked for Continental Bondware in Shelbyville and was a switch board operator for Shelby Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville and the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club. Beverly was an avid bowler. She married Darrel Richard “Dick” Smith on November 26, 1953 in Shelbyville. He died on February 14, 2006.

Surviving are her daughter, Paula Davis of Shelbyville; sons, Richard Curtis “Curt” Smith and wife Shelly of Mt. Zion and Danny Smith and wife Betsy of Tuscola; brother, Danny Joe Beem and wife Stephanie of Kenosha, WI; and eight grandchildren, Blake Smith, Taylor Davis, Mackenzie Smith, Kaleigh Smith, Carson Smith, Braden Smith, Melissa Rodgers and Matt Rodgers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, Steven Michael in infancy; and granddaughter, Brette Ellen Smith in infancy.

Beverly was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We will miss her unconditional love and warm spirit.
