J. Elston “Bud” Hubner, 92, of Shelbyville, died at 2:36 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2008 in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shelbyville with Rev. Barbara Stroud-Borth officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Shelbyville.

Bud was born on September 12, 1916 in Rose Township of Shelby County, Illinois, the son of Thomas Henry and Mary Ellen Walker Hubner. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1934. Bud was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, where he was a truck driver and a cook. He farmed his father’s farm and was a custodian/bus driver for the Tower Hill School System. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post #4829 and Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 all of Shelbyville.

Surviving are his nephew, Larry Hubner and wife Jeanie of Shelbyville; great nephews, Sean Hubner and wife Michon of Des Moines, Iowa and Sam Hubner and wife Natalie of Dalton City, IL; great great nephews, Jake Thomas Hubner and David Hubner; and great great nieces, Madison Hubner and Melissa Hubner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Vance Hubner.
