Burley E Brewer
(October 31, 1934 – December 16, 2011)
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Jim Hubner officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be in Red Bank Cemetery, Lakewood, IL. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Mr. Brewer was born on October 31, 1934 in Marmaduke, Arkansas, the son of Leon and Bettie Ledbetter Brewer. He worked for S. H. Young Construction Company, Shelby Redi-Mix, and G. W. Prosser Company all in Shelbyville. He was a member of the Kaskaskia Coon Hunters Club and the Central Illinois Labor Union in Jacksonville, IL. Burley was an outdoorsman, enjoying his horses, donkeys and dogs. He was also an avid coon and squirrel hunter. Burley married Shirley V. Caldwell on April 7, 1959.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; sons, Roger Brewer of Brownstown, IL, Lyndell Brewer and wife Kim and Dennis Brewer all of Lakewood, IL, Travis Brewer and wife Rhonda of Cowden, IL and Jesse Brewer and wife Karen of Oklahoma City, OK; daughters, Karen Franklin and husband Darrell of Lakewood, IL, Vickie Parks and husband Chuck of Pana, IL and Judy Dance and husband Ron of Assumption, IL; brother, Hershel Brewer of Arkansas; sisters, Betty Hartsfield and Glenda Sollis both of Arkansas; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Harvel Gatewood; half-sister, Margaret Wyatt; and nephew, Doyle Hartsfield.
