Callie Marie Syfert, 92, of Mode, died at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2009, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. C. W. Lewis officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery, near Beecher City. Memorials may be given to the Mode United Methodist Church, Ful-O-Pep 4-H Club or St. Michaels School in Sigel.

Callie was born on July 29, 1917 in Shelby County, Illinois, the daughter of Frederick and Martha Jane Whitrock Smith. She was a farm wife and also worked at Hygrade Cheese Factory and cooked at the Sale Barn Restaurant both in Shelbyville and worked at Brown Shoe Company in Sullivan, IL. She was a member of the Mode United Methodist Church. Callie loved her flowers and garden; winter time was spent in sewing and quilting. She married Elmer E. Syfert on August 14, 1937 in Fancher, IL. He died on November 12, 1988.

Surviving are her sons, Richard L. “Richie” Syfert of Shelbyville and Larry D. Syfert and wife Wynona of Mode; daughters, Mary Ann Deters and husband Harry of Sigel and Sharon K. Devore and husband Don of Mode; sister, Maxine Vogel of Mode; sister-in-law, Rosalie Smith of Mode; six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, 19 step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; sons, Lester Dale and Roy Allen Syfert; brother, Fred Smith, Jr.; and infant sisters, Otta, Nellie and Edna.
