Carl A. Kimlel, 87, of Rantoul, IL, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 in Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Synodically Authorized Minister, Marilyn Dudley officiating. Visitation from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, near Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, near Shelbyville.

Mr. Kimlel was born on September 30, 1925 in Rose Twp., Shelby County, IL, the son of Paul and Edith Miller Kimlel. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1942. Carl was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II. He was a retired farmer and an avid fisherman. Carl was a member of Shelbyville VFW Post #4829, Shelby County Farm Bureau and a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, near Shelbyville. He married Betty Jane Martin on May 31, 1947 in Naperville, IL. She died on June 13, 2006.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy McDonald of Somonauk, IL, Janet Jeffers (husband, Steve) of Rantoul, IL and Barbara Anderson (late husband, William) of Rantoul, IL; brother, J. C. Kimlel (wife, Charlotte) of Bridgeville, DE; three granddaughters; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and one brother in infancy.
