Carl Curtis Kull, 96, of Strasburg, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2010 in the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 in Grace Lutheran Church in Strasburg with Rev. Michael Mohr officiating. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL, Strasburg Community Improvement Fund or donor’s choice.
Mr. Kull was born on March 28, 1914 in Strasburg, IL, the son of Henry C. and Rosetta M. Staehli Kull. He was a graduate of Windsor High School in the Class of 1932 and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. Carl was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He and his brother Merl owned and operated Kull Brothers Hardware and Appliance Store in Strasburg for 34 years, retiring in 1979. He then helped his son, Gary, at Kull Appliance Center in Strasburg from 1980-2001. Carl was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Strasburg, where he was an Elder, former president of the congregation, church choir director for over 30 years and former president of the Men’s Club. He was also a member of Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Carl enjoyed playing cards and singing for weddings in his younger days. He married Lauretta C. Klitzing on November 25, 1943.
Surviving are his wife, Lauretta; sons, Roger L. Kull and wife Marilyn of Strasburg, IL, John D. Kull and wife Sharon of Poway, CA and Gary L. Kull and wife Karen of Strasburg, IL; grandchildren, Carla Thomas and husband Ed of Charleston, IL, Steven Kull and wife Rebecca of Effingham, IL, Mark Kull and wife Rhonda of Strasburg, IL, Chris Sullivan and wife Dawn of Glendale, AZ, Dawn Ellis and husband Dean of Poway, CA, Karolyn Kull and fiancé Nicholas Grela of Las Cruces, NM, Matt Kull of Encinitas, CA, Shannon Wascher and husband Nate of Stewardson, IL, Krystal Friese and husband Brock of Greenville, IL and Jenna Layton and husband Josh of Beaufort, SC; and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry A. Kull; brother, Merl M. Kull; and sister, Ruby Hudson.
