Carl S. Finley, 93, of Shelbyville, died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville with Rev. Lee Lovett and Rev. Bruce Owens officiating. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday and 10:00-10:45 a.m. Tuesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Choir Fund or the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville.

Mr. Finley was born on September 10, 1917 in LaMonte, MO, the son of Charles W. and Christine Straten Finley. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Carl received his Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. He began teaching elementary music education in the Shelbyville schools in the fall of 1948 and in 1949 became the director of the high school band and chorus. Carl then served as the Shelbyville High School Principal from 1967 until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, where he was active in the chancel choir and was their director for many years. He married Cleora Mae Clements on March 1, 1942.

Surviving are his wife, Cleora; daughter, Jileen Ann Eisele of Springfield, IL; brother, Clayton Finley of Downey, CA; half-sister, Lula Mae Kruse of Blue Springs, MO; grandson, Jason Eisele and wife Stefanie of Springfield, IL and their daughter, Elise Olivia Eisele; and granddaughter, Jessica Eisele of Wagner, IL and her sons, Anthony McLean and Ryder Eldridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one half-brother; and one half-sister.
