Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Leon Goff officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Mr. Porter was born on March 6, 1927 in Toluca, IL, the son of Charles Wayne and Hester Cora Auvil Porter. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II. Carl was a civil service employee for 19 years at Scott Air Force Base in Mascoutah, IL, Joliet Arsenal and Decatur Signal Depot. He later owned and operated Shelbyville Disposal in Shelbyville, IL for many years. Carl was a lifetime member of Shelbyville VFW Post #4829. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He married Betty Lou Hott on December 31, 1947.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou of Shelbyville, IL; son, Terry Porter and wife Janice of Neoga, IL; daughters, Marsha Rinderer and husband Russell of Highland, IL, Nancy Sudbring and husband Kenny of Grant Fork, IL, Debby Dilley and husband Gene of Shelbyville, IL and Sandra Porter of Carlyle, IL; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Carl Wesley Porter, Jr.; brother, Charles Porter; sister, Maxine Stern; and grandson, Christopher Porter.
