A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 p.m. in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Danny Himes officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Graveside services with military rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Memorials may be given to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or donor’s choice.
C.W. as born on June 14, 1920 in Shelby County, near Assumption, Illinois, the son of Herman Christian and Mary Christina (Forbes) Fathauer. He graduated from Moweaqua High School in the Class of 1937. C.W. was an Army Air Corps veteran of WW II serving in the Papuan, New Guinea, Luzon, and Ryukyus Campaigns. He was a farmer for many years in the Assumption area. C.W. also worked for D.M. Lake in Shelbyville as an operating engineer of heavy equipment, was a bulk plant agent for Standard Oil, Amoco and British Petroleum, and served as Director of Transportation and bus driver for Assumption Community Unit #9 until his retirement in 1989. He enjoyed boating, traveling, RVing, tinkering on machinery, and attending Farm Shows, Air Shows and the Illinois State Fair. He married Berdella Jean Ashinhurst on December 24, 1947.
He is survived by his wife, Berdella of Shelbyville; IL; daughters, Pamela Sue Dumond of Altoona, WI, Carla Jean Cazzell (Mike) of Vincennes, IN, and Paula Kaye Clements (Doug) of Assumption, IL; son, Dennis William Fathauer of Charleston, IL; grandchildren, Nathan Hockgeiger (Barbara), Jeremy Hockgeiger (Hannah), Alexandria Donoho (Grant), Wesley Dumond (Sara), and Garrett Clements (Lena Brumleve); great grandchildren, Joshua Hockgeiger, Olivia Hockgeiger, Caroline Hockgeiger, and Colin Dumond; sister-in-law, Agnes Fathauer of Pana, IL; four nieces; and ten nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert, Eugene, Delbert, Herman Jr., Melvin, Donald and in infancy, Merle Fathauer; sisters, Gladys Hawker, Imo June Burrus and in infancy Iva Fathauer; two nieces; and two nephews.
