Carol Ann Johnston, 78, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 6:54 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2019 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church in Shelbyville or Donor’s Choice.

Carol Ann was born on December 25, 1940 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Clinton Oren and Goldie Lenamay Gordon Bryson. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1959 and then from Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. Carol Ann began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse at Shelby Memorial Hospital. She later worked for Dr. Richard Jones in Cowden, IL, San Pedro Community Hospital in San Pedro, CA, Herrin Hospital, Herrin, IL, St. Anthony Hospital, in Effingham, IL, Shelbyville Manor as their first administrator, and retired in 2004 from the Shelby County Health Department after 25 years of service. Carol Ann was the recipient of the Illinois Public Health Worker of the Year Award on September 30, 1997. She was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the former Garden Club all in Shelbyville. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, traveling, playing Bunco, tending to her flowers, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She married Timothy Wayne Johnston on October 13, 1963.

She is survived by her husband, Tim of Shelbyville; children, Laura Ann (Greg) Beck of Teutopolis, IL, Clinton (Dara) Johnston of Forsyth, IL and Jennifer Lyn Johnston of Shelbyville, IL; eight grandchildren, Will Beck, Hayley Haskett, Madelyn Johnston, Jonathan Beck, Lily Johnston, Sam Johnston, Luke Haskett and Ian Dick; sister, Barbara (Bob) Wells of Shelbyville, IL; brothers-in-law, Butch and John Johnston both of Marion, IL; special aunt, Melba Stiritz of Marion, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Maureen and Wayne Johnston; sister, Shirley Biddle; and brothers-in-law, Joe Johnston in infancy and Tom Johnston.
