Carol M Murphy
(December 15, 1938 – December 01, 2008)
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour before services on Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to “Hope Hats”, Carol’s Relay for Life Team-“Cookies for a Cure”, or Mayo Clinic Foundation.
Carol was born on December 15, 1938 in Shelby County, Illinois, the seventh daughter of Burl E. and Clara M. Toothman Roley. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1956. Louis and Carol were married on April 12, 1959. Carol was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville and a Sunday School Teacher for about 35 years. She worked as a Home Daycare Provider for 45 years.
Carol loved spending time with her family, knitting, crocheting, and sewing for everyone in town. She attended ceramics classes at Vance’s and played bunco for many years. She was the founder of “Hope Hats”, a charity organization for cancer patients. Her favorite hobby was holding babies.
Left to mourn her loss and celebrate her life is her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Louis A. Murphy; daughter, Kendra E. Ross (Dennis) of Shelbyville; son, Kent E. Murphy (Christy) of Shelbyville; granddaughters, Kristin and Kassie Ross both of Shelbyville; seven sisters, Eileen White (Jack) of Hesperia, CA, Dorothy Bullington of Shelbyville, Ione Biehler (Carl) of Scottsdale, AZ, Margaret Shipman (Kenneth) of Durant, OK, Helen Weakly of Shelbyville, Ruby Rodina (John) of Granite Bay, CA, and Clara Durbin (Dave) of Effingham; one brother, Dick Roley (Loma) of Shelbyville; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lana Kay Murphy; and brother, William A. Roley.
