Carol Annette Ulmer, 55, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 11:51 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in her residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Friday, February 26, 2021 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shelbyville, IL with Father Pawel Augustyniak as Celebrant.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – noon, Friday in the church.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.   Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL.

Carol was born on July 7, 1965 in Pana, IL, the daughter of Eugene W. and Jean (Swiney) Schmitz.  She graduated as Valedictorian of the Tower Hill High School Class of 1983.  Carol then attended Lake Land College to earn a Computer Science Program Certificate.  She worked at Prairie Rose Nursing Home, served as secretary for Midwest Insurance in Springfield and in March 1987 began working at International Paper, retiring in 2018.  She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Pana.  Carol enjoyed reading, gardening and visiting with her grandchildren and attending their events.  She married Michael S. Ulmer on July 17, 1993 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shelbyville, IL.

She is survived by her husband, Michael S. Ulmer; father, Eugene W. Schmitz of Tower Hill, IL; daughter, Tonya (Mark) Wieneke of New Palestine, IN; sons, Travis (Brooke) Ulmer and Jeremiah Ulmer all of Shelbyville, IL; brothers, Paul Schmitz of Shelbyville, IL, John Schmitz and James Schmitz both of Tower Hill, IL; sister, Barbara Wilson of Decatur, IL; grandchildren, Bryson Ulmer, Austin Ulmer, Carter Wieneke and Elizabeth Wieneke; many nieces and nephews; and many loving and supportive friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Schmitz; mother-in-law, Carole Ulmer; twin sisters, Maureen and Colleen Schmitz; sister-in-law, Kristine Schmitz; brother-in-law, Scott Ulmer; and nephew, Daniel Schmitz.
