Carolyn M. Ray, 91, of Shelbyville, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 in Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Pastor Kevin Ray and Pastor Wayne Kent officiating. Visitation from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. ET Saturday in Dewey Lake Cemetery, Dowagiac, Michigan. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.

Carolyn was born on January 7, 1917 in St. Joseph County, Indiana, the daughter of Fred H. and Laura L. (Cauffman) Smith. She graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in 1935. She married Eugene Victor Ray, Sr. on February 26, 1937 in South Bend, Indiana. He died on December 18, 1978.

Carolyn leaves two sons, Michael Ray and wife Carolyn of North Aurora, Illinois and Kevin Ray and wife Linda of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Margaret Ray of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Julie (Stuart) Foote of San Antonio, Texas, Kyle (Erin) Ray and Alan (Rebecca) Ray all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cheryl (John) Daley of Ashburn, Virginia, Mark Ray of North Aurora, Illinois, Joshua (Aimee) Ray of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and Sarah (Adam) Woolridge of Richmond, IN; and great grandchildren, Nathan and Matthew Foote, Tyler, Emily and Abigail Daley, and Hannah and Benjamin Woolridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; son, Eugene V. Ray, Jr.; brothers, John and J.C. Smith; and sister, Madelyn Smith.

Carolyn was an active member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville. She was a life-long student of the Bible and taught the Menninger Bible Class in the community for many years. She loved to sew and spent numerous hours through the years making lap robes and quilts for the local nursing homes, Living Alternatives and the Head Start program. Carolyn loved her Lord, her church and her family and friends.
