Howard Charles “Charlie” Barker, 80, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 2:39 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2019 at Carle Hospital, Urbana, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2019 in First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Tim Yankee officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church or Shelby County 4-H. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Charlie was born January 1, 1939, in Middlesworth, IL the son of Joseph Henry “Joe” and Mabel (Kessel) Barker. Charlie graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1958. He began working at Baker’s Elevator in Middlesworth, IL. Charlie was a lifelong farmer, farming with his father, Joe, his son, Chris, and his grandsons, Danny and Jason. He was also an Allis-Chalmers dealer for 22 years in Middlesworth, IL. Charlie was a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau and attended the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, IL. He married Carolyn June Dugan on August 3, 1958. Charlie will be remembered for his sense of humor, his passion for farming and his love of family.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Cathy Jo Kaufman (Gene) of Charleston, IL; daughter-in-law, Beth Barker (Mark Mathis) of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Kelsey Diane Swing (Chris) of Lerna, IL, Brooke Nicole Little (Dale) of Gays, IL, Danny Joe Barker (Jennifer) of Shelbyville, IL and Jason Howard Barker (Erin) of Shelbyville, IL; and great grandchildren, Lixia Swing, Kinsley Little and Briar Little.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mabel Barker; son, Chris Howard Barker; and brother, Kenneth Barker (Alice).
