Charles E Nelson
(July 20, 1957 – October 09, 2006)
A private memorial service is pending. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville.
Gene was born on July 20, 1957 in Decatur, the son of Floyd Charles and Stella Mae Miller Nelson. He graduated from Moweaqua High School in the Class of 1975. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps before he returned to the local area to practice industrial welding. He subsequently moved to Decatur where he devoted many years to the Caterpillar Corporation.
He loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren, and was an enthusiastic collector of firearms. He was a tremendous giver of “Self”, and during his most recent medical tribulations blessed his entire family by devoting his life to the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ.
Gene is survived by his former wife and friend, Martha Nelson of Decatur; his parents, Floyd Charles and Stella Mae Nelson of Shelbyville; his daughters, Melissa McGhee of Shelbyville and Rebecca Nelson of Effingham; his three sisters, Terry Tallman and her husband Brad of Shelbyville, Debbie Cline and her husband Kenneth of Centerview, MO, and Cheri Richardson and her husband Steve of Mascoutah, IL; and four grandchildren, Destiny, Austin, Hannah, and Duncan.
He is greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
