Charles J Rosine

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Lewis officiating. Visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg with Masonic rites at 8:00 p.m. by Stewardson Masonic Lodge #541. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, Illinois with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post # 289. Memorials may be given to the Strasburg United Methodist Church.
Mr. Rosine was born on October 18, 1922 in rural Strasburg, the son of Charles Rudolf and Mamie Morgan Rosine. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1943-1945 stationed in Arizona and then Guam during World War II. When he returned he married Betty Lou Huffer on May 5, 1946.
Junior would later run a restaurant and then tavern in Strasburg before devoting the rest of his career to public service, which included the State Penal Farm in Vandalia, three terms as Strasburg’s mayor and his 30 years of combined government service. He first served as a rural letter carrier and finally as Strasburg’s Post Master until his retirement. Junior farmed in the Strasburg area for over 30 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Strasburg. Junior’s service continued as a member in the Strasburg American Legion Post #289 and Effingham VFW Post # 1769. He was also a 3rd Degree Blue Lodge Member and a 32nd Degree Mason as well as a member of Stewardson Masonic Lodge #541, Order of Eastern Star Chapter #69 of Shelbyville and Shriners of St. Louis, MO. Junior was a lifetime Cub fan who was very delighted this season.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; son, Frank (Patty) Rosine of Gays; grandchildren, Paula Rosine of Mattoon, Jennifer Rosine of New York, NY, Heather Rosine of St. Louis, MO; great grandchildren, Jared Rosine and Megan Beebe both of Mattoon; brother, Gene (Ruth) Rosine of East Peoria, IL; sister, Martha Mathis of Shelbyville; brother-in-law, Burl Huffer, Jr. of Shelbyville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Rosine; and sisters, Rosabell Mathis and Marilyn Schultz.
