Charles Levi Bryson, 86, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp and Chuck Bryson officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the General Dacey Trail or American Cancer Society.

Mr. Bryson was born on November 25, 1928 in Shelby County, Illinois, just south of Findlay, the son of Bertie Elisha and Nancy Caroline Davis Bryson. Charles was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in the Army of Occupation following the Korean Conflict. When he returned from the service, he began working for Caterpillar, Inc. in Decatur, IL and retired in 1987 with 33 years of service. In his retirement, he worked for Niestradt Landscaping in Shelbyville. Charles enjoyed working outdoors, planting flowers, mushroom hunting and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Charles married Margaret Marie Mansfield on June 22, 1952. She died on January 12, 2007.

He is survived by his sons, Chuck Bryson (Ann) of McAllen, TX and Tim Bryson (Beverly) of Mattoon, IL; sister, Beulah Mears (Lee) of Shelbyville, IL; five grandchildren, Joseph Spicer (Laura) of Bloomington, IL, Todd Bryson of Atlanta, GA, Alicia Kingery (Kyle) of Mattoon, IL, Robert Bryson of Mattoon, IL and William Bryson of Mattoon, IL; and four great grandchildren, Jayden and Aliannah Kingery, Landen Spicer and Lauren Raithel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; and nephew, Charles Robert Mears, who died in Vietnam in 1967.
