Charles W. “Monster” Evans, 77, of Cowden, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the First Christian Church of Cowden with Rev. Kevin Bonifacius officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville and one hour before services Sunday in the church. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the First Christian Church of Cowden.

Mr. Evans was born on September 6, 1929 at home in rural Pana, Illinois, the son of Charles Boyd and Bertha Julius Evans. He was an ironworker for Local 46 Ironworkers of Springfield. After his retirement, he owned and operated Charlie’s Health Center and Reflexology in Cowden for 22 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the First Christian Church of Cowden and V.F.W. Post #4829 of Shelbyville. He was a cook at the Cowden Pioneer Days for 23 years and loved to fish and camp on the river. He married Charlotte Wallace on January 3, 1959.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte; sons, Harry (Loretta) Evans of Cowden and Jack Wallace of Bloomington; daughters, Cathy (Charles) Lilly of Shumway, Orla Jo (Mike) Merriman of Brownstown, Tammy (Tim) Culberson of Shelbyville, Tina (Scott) West of Lakewood and Terri (Roy) Tull of Shelbyville; brother, Francis (Sally) Evans of Cowden; sister, Fairy Jane Sellenberg of Indiana; grandchildren, Kelsey (Chris) Radloff, Tobin Lilly, Aaron (Jessica) Corley, Alicia Corley, Adrian Corley and friend Heather Sims, Dustin Merriman, Eric Culberson and fiancée Danielle May, Brooke (Jake) Hammond, Jeremy West, Caleb West, Rachel West, Jessica Tull and friend Breck Calame, Jared Tull, Jacob Tull, Melissa Evans, Nick Evans, and Harry Evans, Jr.; and great grandchildren, Dylan Evans, Lane and Kade Radloff, Sydney Wright and Hayden Bert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Donna Tucker and Mildred Kottwitz.
